HR AWARENESS FOR LINE MANAGERS


Introduction

This compact, one-day course is designed to provide line managers with an essential introduction to human resources and their related responsibilities within the organisation.

The course is composed of the following modules, each one streamlined to deliver concise, relevant information. Students will learn how to complete a HR specific Risk Assessment, explained throughout the modules and completed at the end of the course.

Content is aimed at Line Managers and supervisors, although any person responsible for managing or supervising a team or been assigned HR related tasks will benefit.

Certification of this qualification does not expire.


Course Objectives

  • This module gives an abridged overview of the fundamental concepts and principles of human resources management. It encompasses key aspects of HR such as recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and employee engagement. By the conclusion of this module, participants will understand the vital role HR plays in organisational success.

  • This short segment focuses on the basics of managing employee absences. It includes a briefing on the legal requirements and policies related to absences such as sick leave, disability, and time off for dependents, as well as strategies for minimising the impact on the organisation.

  • This module covers the essentials of creating a supportive work environment. It introduces the factors impacting employee wellbeing, such as stress, mental health, and work-life balance, along with strategies for enhancing workplace wellbeing.

  • This brief module guides participants through the fundamental legal requirements and best practices for conducting workplace investigations into issues such as misconduct, discrimination, and harassment. Participants will gain an understanding of how to conduct initial, objective investigations.

  • This session covers the basics of handling disciplinary and grievance procedures, including legal requirements, how to conduct preliminary investigations, initiate hearings, and make informed decisions. It will provide participants with an understanding of how to navigate challenging situations and make fair, objective decisions.

  • At the end of each course students will complete a specific HR Risk Assessment to identify key risks, potential issues and control measures within their workplace.

By the end of the course, line managers will have a basic understanding of HR and will be equipped to handle fundamental HR responsibilities within their roles.
