Designed specifically for Security Managers with health and safety responsibilities, this course connects the risk management process of ISO 31000 (Risk Management - Guidelines) with the occupational health and safety management system that is ISO45001 (Occupational Health & Safety).

Course Objectives and structure
Objectives
1. Understand the principles and practical application of the ISO45001 Occupational health and safety management system.
2. Enhance your ability to identify, assess, and manage health and safety risks.
3. Learn to set SMART health and safety objectives to enable the health and safety management system.
4. Understand and develop health and safety leadership qualities.
5. Give you the knowledge and tools to conduct health and safety audits and investigations.
Structure
The course consists three days, comprising one day of self-directed learning and two days in a virtual classroom with interactive sessions.
Day 1: Self-Study in the Course Learning Zone
Introduction to H&S risk management principles.
Implementing a health and safety policy.
Understanding risk perception.
Awareness of main health and safety legislation, the sentencing guidelines, and an insight into a health and safety legal register.
Emergency preparedness and response (from the First Aid Needs Assessment to scenario testing and PXR - Post Exercise Reports).
Understanding the law surrounding construction projects (CDM2015)
Managing contractors (supplier verification, reviewing RAMS, monitoring).
Pre-Course Work:
Review a provided health and safety policy, and submit a short report on your findings.
Read two case study’s of previous HSE prosecutions of security companies, and submit a short report on where you see their failings.
Write a Lone Working Policy and a safe system of work.
Write a set of SMART health and safety objectives for your department or company.
Day 2: Virtual Classroom (Tutor led by Andrew Protheroe)
Case studies: HSE prosecutions of security companies.
Hazard identification and risk assessment.
Walk through and comparison of the ISO45001, ISO18788, ISO28000, and ISO31030 frameworks.
Leadership characteristics and management activities in health and safety.
Focus on work equipment (PUWER).
Health surveillance.
Day 3: Virtual Classroom (Tutor led by Andrew Protheroe)
Incident investigation processes: reporting, analysing, and action planning.
Planning and conducting first and second party health and safety audits.
Interactive Q&A and scenario-based exercises.
Assessment
A written assessment comprising 45 questions.
Submission of a comprehensive health and safety risk assessment within three weeks of course completion.
