Life after redundancy? ... From pain to positive feedback

Author: Andrew Protheroe

“Why don’t you go on your own?”

Although friends had said this for years, I was content working for others, and as I have trouble counting, starting a business seemed impossible!

However, 8 months ago I was made redundant & the department I headed disbanded. A feeling that made me sick with worry. With arms twisted, I took a deep breath and started PCR Global - Professional, Credible and Resilient.

Eight months in, the days are long, but love from my family, strength from my fellow Directors, utmost trust in our growing team, and wonderful client feedback, assures me redundancy was a blessing.

To develop other people’s First Aid skills is an absolute honour. So, thank you to the students from FRF who shared their stories (some very sad) and rolled up their sleeves! Telling a First Aid Tutor that you feel confident you could help in a first aid situation brings such a feeling of achievement.

Back to the pain & uncertainty of redundancy! My father taught me to respect all and be the hardest worker in the room - the Army taught me teamwork - and redundancy has taught me that clouds can have silver linings.

Team-work makes the Dream-work (others do the counting!)
