Informal Learning - What examples are set for us and by us?

Author: Andrew Protheroe

We recognise formal training - structured with objectives & timebound. What about informal learning?

When conducting a course observation this week I drifted off thinking about the ‘informal learning’ currently being set within PCR Global Limited - our new company. ‘Informal learning’ is learning we are constantly exposed to as we observe & listen to others during interactions - its also the ‘learning’ offered to others through our own behaviour.

When we watch & listen, we learn the acceptable & not acceptable social norms & values, but also whether people’s actions reflect what they say - the ground truth. This week we provided our first Temporary Works Coordinator Courses - thrilled!.

Andrew set up for the tutor, whilst PCR’s Ian and Phil sat on the course for the purpose of CPD, and I undertook an observation for lessons learned (informal learning).

Thanks to each delegate for sharing experiences during some technically challenging days!

Awareness of the positive & negative influences of informal learning is crucial if we wish to improve security, safety, health, wellbeing and productivity at work.

INVEST in & RESPECT your team - it’s better for everyone. Fact.
