Walk 'n' Talk: STEREOTYPES
Real Risk Management | Walk ‘n’ Talk | Stereotypes
Author: Andrew Protheroe
Stereotype, from the Greek word 'stereos(firm/solid)' 'typos(impression)'
Three (of many) areas are noteworthy:
1. An awareness of the many 'perceptual errors' involved in our thought process, enables us to appreciate the fallibility of our risk management decisions.
2. Failing to understand & therefore recognise the potential of stereotyping leading to prejudice & possibly discrimination can lead to unhappiness, demotivation & loss of productivity.
3. Does discrimination form part of your HR risk assessment?
Attribution Theory - explaining the causes of behaviour & events.
Recognising our inherent weaknesses is the first step in mitigating them.
PCR Take-a-ways
1 - Stereotype - Prejudice - Discrimination
2 - Attribution theory
3 - Concentric rings of security/safety
Thanks for reading & watching if you do - a little over time, but an area I truly believe should be given the thought it deserves. If you've been on the receiving end, you will have felt the negative impact.
