‘The most important part of the assessment is the re-assessment’

Author: Andrew Protheroe

‘The most important part of the assessment is the re-assessment’ - I’ll never forget being taught that.

As a team medic whose had to respond to multiple causalities in ambush situations - there is one thing you fall back on to always get you through - TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING.

Last week we provided FREC training to a private client in London who recognised weaknesses in their first aid needs.

The FREC3 is a great course - and certainly not just for security personnel working in hostile environments.

As for the photos, here’s Howell giving me the ‘once over’ before Christmas - not quite a clean bill of health at that time, but I’m getting there.

Also, a few from days gone by, when a trauma bag was never further than an arms length away - in fact, it was often strapped around your thigh... below a tourniquet!

There are some outstanding people in that team - who I can truly say they’re life savers.

There are so many occasions when a one day or three day first aid course simply doesn’t cut it - all roads lead back to the risk assessment and first aid needs assessment.

Real people, with real experience, providing training for real world scenarios.
